This 23rd of August, come and join us in a reception you will be sure to enjoy. Six teens from Ghana will be featured and uplifted as a part of the DIASPORA community. We have put together an event featuring DC's best in artistic talent that will have you dancing in the aisles. COME ON OUT and show your love as the Ghana Youth complete the Washington DC tour and prepare to move on to NY as they continue to uplift the continent on a whirlwind cultural experience they will not soon forget!

Ghana, Nigeria,Senegal,Sierra Leone Zimbabwe,Ethiopia,Trinidad, Tobago, Haiti..THE ENTIRE AFRICAN DIASPORA, WE ARE CALLING FOR YOUR PRESENCE AT THIS EVENT!

A prize will be given to the youth organization that brings the most youth! . (You must be wearing paraphanelia to be counted! So get those t-shirts out! or make a button or something!) Invited youth organizations are: One Common Unity, Words Beats & Life, Ultra Teens, GWC outdoor school, Momie's TLC, Jaguars Mentoring Group..and the list goes on...)

Plan USA, and its partner organization, Plan International/Ghana are sponsoring a US visit (Washington DC & NY) for six gifted Ghanaian teenagers as part of a pilot "Youth Ambassadors" program.

The six Ghanaian Youth Ambassadors are: Abigail Sogah (15); Mr. Baleng (16); Justice ; Christian (12); Martha (16), and Puobaare (14).

The program is being presented in partnership with the Diaspora Africa Forum's diplomatic mission in Accra, Ghana, and is designed to create and increase global awareness of everyday life for young people in Africa and focus public attention on Plan's child- centered programs and initiatives. "It is with great pride and fervor that we welcome the Ghanaian Youth Ambassadors to the United States," said Ahuma Adodoadji, president and chief executive officer of Plan USA. "The scheduled visits to Washington DC, New York City, and to our Plan USA headquarters in Rhode Island, will provide invaluable experiences for all involved." The youth will engage with various youth organizations, visit historical sites, attend church services, undergo media training for interviews, appear on youth radio, visit the Ghana Embassy & UN consulates in addition to other fun activities such as Six Flags Amusement Park and The Lion King on Broadway. Additionally, a reception and fundraiser will be held in each city to support Plan Programs in Ghana.

The confirmed performers for the event are: KUKU, 3 Generations, Madarocka, ALLY WAY & The Cultural foundation for Children Drum and Dance group.

COST: Donations accepted at the door (Minimum requested $10)

  • Three Generations is a traveling musical theater company dedicated to the preservation of Native American and African song and storytelling. This exciting troupe combines the elements of song, history, geography, language, rhythm, culture and dance to create an entertaining, educational, spiritually elevated performance full of audience participation.
  • KUKU & South African guitarist Mongezi NtakaHailed by a fan as "the African Music Medicine Man," this Yoruba, DC-based troubadour has been touring extensively since the release of his debut recording "Love Sessions." In October 2007, South African guitar maestro Mongezi Ntaka (former and original guitarist for the late Lucky Dube band) joined KUKU as he launched "The Absence of Cool" at his third Kennedy Center appearance.
  • Madarocka! Nigerian born, raised in D.C., educated at the University of Delaware, Howard University, and in the streets of D.C., New York and L.A., Madarocka is not only an entertainer, she is a gifted poet with the voice of a hardcore angel.MADAROCKA won the HIP HOP category at the 2006 Nigerian Entertainment Awards which was part of a larger celebration held in Washington, DC
  • Ally Way, born March 29, 1987 is currently recording her full length album. She is an educator, dancer,guitarist, and pianist. This dwarf star has shared stage with legends such as Herbie Hancock, Tina Marie, Doug E. Fresh & Destiny's Child.
  • Cultural Foundation for Children has been educating area youth about African culture through dance and music. The artistic director and founder Victor Berry leads the Prince William County non-profit group by presenting, preserving and passing African traditions for future generations.

The Diaspora African Forum
DAF

The mission of the Diaspora African Forum is to establish vital and proactive links and linkages for Diaspora Africans and encourage their full participation as stakeholders in the development of the Africa of the 21st century. An additional goal is to ensure that those in the Diaspora reap the benefits of the harvest of fruits which shall come from the establishment of full African unity

Diaspora African Forum is also pleased to announce the completion of its headquarters in Accra, Ghana. If you would like to have your Ancestors name put on the "Sankofa Wall" at the newly constructed Mission at the W.E. B. Dubois Center, NOW IS THE TIME. The contribution is $100, for an engraved marble stone plaque. The wall reads" We are the hopes and Dreams of our Ancestors." Donations are accepted via Ubuntu Village
